Only road haulage achieves a significant increase
In Germany, road, rail and inland shipping carried 3.8 billion t in 2018, an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous year, according to the German federal office for goods transport.
Road haulage and railfreight achieved rises of 1.5% and 1.1%, respectively, while very low water levels in the summer and autumn due to long periods of drought led to a large decline in cargo volumes for the inland shipping industry.
In the light of above average increases, road haulage extended its share of the modal split in 2018, while the portion of inland shipping fell and railfreight’s contribution remained virtually unchanged. (ben)
