ONE’s containerised wind assist units
Two containerised wind assist units will be installed on one of Ocean Network Express’ (ONE) operated container feeder ships before the end of 2023.
The Singapore-based company has developed a cost optimisation project called “Sapphire + Project”, which will contribute to the decarbonisation initiatives in ONE’s Green Strategy.
For Takashi Kase, ONE’s senior vice president, “the reduction of GHG emissions is ONE's top business priority. This first wind assist system utilisation will be a great milestone to our goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Ocean Network Express, Norse and Econowind, the company that created Ventofoil, a wing shaped element, have jointly studied wind assisted propulsion. They expect it to help reduce fuel oil consumption, but also to have a positive effect over a wide range of operations. (lh)
