ONE's wind power trial
Ocean Network Express (ONE) has initiated a trial to evaluate wind propulsion technology, collaborating with Econowind, to install two Ventofoil wind assist devices on the "MV Kalamazoo".
The Ventofoils are designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by harnessing wind energy, potentially generating up to 400kW of power. Commencing in January 2024, the six-month trial will collect data on the Ventofoils' performance, fuel savings, and emissions reduction to determine the feasibility of wind propulsion in sustainable shipping.
This trial is part of ONE's commitment to environmental sustainability and its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and reaffirms its broader strategy to incorporate green initiatives and technologies. (pb)
