One air freight tonne "weighs" almost EUR 153,000
In its analysis on goods flows and the development of Germany’s air freight market, the German Air Transport Association (BDL) reports that the value of goods transported by air reached a new high in 2022. In trade with countries outside the European Union, it averaged EUR 152,807 per tonne - 81% more than in 2000.
According to the analysis, the value of goods transported by truck in 2022 was EUR 6,525 per tonne, while transport by ocean-going vessel reached a value of EUR 2,493 per tonne and the railways achieved EUR 2,090. In the same period, the amount of air freight loaded at German airports in trade with countries outside the European Union also increased significantly, by 54%. (ah)
