Of flounders and salmons

Alaska Airlines, which delivers fresh salmon to the 48 Lower States every year, is investing in Jetzero, a company based in Los Angeles which is developing a new blended-wing body (BWB) aircraft that will cut fuel burn by up to 50% and reduce emissions.

As the first airline to invest in Jetzero, Alaska hereby shows its commitment to advance new technology that will benefit the future of aviation starting in the 2030s, including those that enable the airlines’ path to net zero carbon emissions.

The investment includes options for future aircraft orders. The BWB aircraft are designed to serve the airline middle market, with seating for 200-plus, but with about half the weight of the aircraft it replaces, such as the B767. The new airliner has multi-mission capability, including as a freighter. (ah)
