ÖBB and port of Trieste expand railfreight network
The port of Trieste on Italy’s Adriatic coast is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year. The Austrian rail company ÖBB and the port have taken the opportunity to sign two declarations of intent to promote railfreight services. The aim is to develop new transport routes, to discuss the future of freight transport and to increase cooperation on infrastructure issues with RFI.
The first new connections are already planned. RCG, the freight affiliate of ÖBB, will soon launch a TransFER service Wolfurt (Austria) - Trieste with one weekly round trip and the TransFER service Trieste-Vienna-Linz-Trieste with one triangular run per week. (ben)
