NSW: cameras to plan freight transport

The cameras, which will be installed throughout the state of New South Wales in Australia, will deliver heavy vehicle traffic information enabling Transport for NSW to better understand freight movements. This will help reduce congestion, improve road safety outcomes and efficient deliveries with the aim of assisting long-term planning for the movement of goods, the NSW government said.

The cameras are also seen as another tool that can be used to help manage growing freight volumes, which are expected to increase across NSW by 28% by 2036 over a 2018 baseline. The cameras will deliver high-definition pictures of heavy vehicles, which are then classified into the type of vehicle in transit and the type of cargo being transported. (ben)
