Not only flowers from Kenya
Since early January, Kenya Airways Cargo has been shipping fresh produce exports, such as avocadoes, fish, chilies, mangoes, pineapple, peanuts, bananas and green vegetables, directly from Kisumu International Airport (KIS) to the rest of the world.
Kisumu's county government formed a PPP comprising Kisumu Lakefront Development Corporation, Kenya Airports Authority, Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya and other key stakeholders to create a cargo village with a cold storage facility.
Allan Kilavuka, group MD and CEO Kenya Airways: "With the initial capacity to transport 42 t per week, we have demonstrated that we have the capacity to support trade as required. With access to air cargo transportation, we believe this will open up the region to more investment and trade opportunities." (ah)
