Northern route now allows refrigerated rail transport
Russian Railways Logistics (RŽDL) has expanded its route network for export transports of smaller specialist shipments on express container trains. Freight trains now connect Russia and China via the Grodekovo railway station, at the Far Eastern border crossing in Pogranichny (Russia) and Suifenhe (China), about 150 km from Vladivostok (Russia).
According to RŽDL the new route will make it possible to deliver groupage cargo from Russia to China in temperature-controlled units and refrigerated containers with express freight trains.
The cross-border railway line in the north can handle almost any type of goods by rail. Hazardous goods and precious metals are still excluded though. (ben)
