Normandy ports look ahead

The good start of the year in the Normandy ports was due to the strong increase in traffic and supply to Ireland via Cherbourg with up to twelve departures per week to the ports of Dublin and Rosslare.

While usually, 35,000 trailers do the trip per year, throughput in the month of January alone amounted to 9,000 trailers. Irish Ferries, Stena Line and Brittany Ferries are currently positioning more vessels (5 to 6 / week) in the Port of Cherbourg.

Nevertheless, throughout the difficult year of 2020, almost all traffic indicators in the three ports of Ports de Normandie - Caen-Ouistreham, Cherbourg and Dieppe - were in the red.

On the Channel side, the drop in tonnages was limited to around 15% and a drop in the number of heavy goods vehicles of around 6%. Conventional traffic continued to rise and grew by 2%. (cd)
