No queuing up in SC Ports
South Carolina Ports on the US East Coast saw a busy October 2022 in container throughput. SC Ports reported a 9% container growth year-over-year, as 257,000 teu moved through the three terminals Wando Welch, North Charleston, and Hugh K. Leatherman.
Imports remain strong, with more than 121,000 loaded import teu coming through the Port of Charleston last month, up nearly 13% from October 2021, marking it the third busiest month in port history.
President and CEO Barbara Melvin commented that “we have maintained berth availability and terminal capacity since early May, making SC Ports the only major East Coast port without ships waiting to access our terminals.”
SC Ports also handled 14,400 rail moves at Inland Ports Greer and Dillon and 18,000 vehicles at Columbus Street Terminal. (sh)
