No monkey business!
DHL Express has collaborated with a rescue home to relocate Chocolat, a female chimpanzee from the Republic of Congo. Beginning her journey from Nairobi Airport on 15 August, Chocolat had a stopover in Bahrain before landing at East Midlands Airport on the following morning.
DHL provided the full transport service comprising a custom-built crate supported by a team of specialist keepers as well as various personnel for the journey.
Chocolat had been rescued from the illegal bushmeat trade and spent twenty years with her first rescuer. Monkey World, the rescue home based in Dorset, UK, will take Chocolat in and introduce her to six other rescued chimpanzees. The sanctuary is home to over 230 primates and will help Chocolat to gradually settle into a natural environment, which is the best form of rehabilitation. (mk)
