Nile Dutch sails to Hamburg

Hamburg-headquartered carrier Hapag-Lloyd has inked an agreement with container shipping company Nile Dutch to take over all its shares. Financial details were not disclosed and the transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

Rotterdam-based Nile Dutch runs 19 agencies and offices in West Africa alone and is considered a West Africa specialist. All in all, the company, which is ranked among the 25 largest carriers worldwide, has 85 global locations, 16 of them are own offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Singapore, China, Angola, Congo and Cameroon.

With ten liner services, around 35,000 teu of transport capacity and a container fleet of about 80,000 teu, Nile Dutch connects Europe, Asia and Latin America with West and South Africa.

Hapag-Lloyed earmarked the company because of its expertise, as CEO Rolf Habben Jansen commented: “The acquisition of Nile Dutch strengthens our position in West Africa.” (cd)
