Next step for Swiss Post's regional policy

Swiss Post has opened a new regional parcel centre in Rümlang near Zurich. The hub’s sorters can process around 5,000 parcels per hour for the greater Zurich-North area. Swiss Post invested a total of CHF 11 million in the conversion of the former industrial hall. The entrances and exits are far away from the residential areas.

The new centre will now take over parcel handling for the Zurich Unterland region from the former facilities in Frauenfeld and Urdorf. In addition to Rümlang, Swiss Post will also open new regional parcel centres in Buchs and Pratteln by the beginning of 2023 as part of this consolidation process.

Further centres will be opened near the conurbations of Basel, Berne and Zurich in the coming years. All in all, Swiss Post is investing around CHF 1.5 billion in parcel processing, which it plans to double in capacity by 2030. (sh)
