New train connects Serbia and China
UTLC-ERA, a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD), has introduced a new route between Belgrade in Serbia and Wuhan in China. It is the 150th transit container service to run on a 1,520 mm broad gauge track.
The train transits across the territories of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. The transhipment of the containers from the European narrow gauge to the 1,520 mm broad gauge track is carried out at the border crossings of Malashevich/Brest at the Polish-Belarus border and Altynkol/ Dostyk at the Kazakhistan-Chinese border.
The first container train, which left from Belgrade, Serbia, is now en route and has just passed the Russian-Kazakhstan border, RZD said. It consists of forty-one 40-foot containers carrying electrolytic copper. (ben)
