New tool improves risk assessment and cost analysis
Across Europe, national road administrations are having to deal with more frequent and severe weather, greater sea level rises and increased stress on infrastructure leading to higher deterioration rates.
A new tool, funded under the conference of European directors of roads transnational research programme and co-ordinated by the UK’s transport research laboratory (TRL), offers risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis to enable road authorities to identify the level of risk to different assets from relevant weather hazards.
The new risk assessment tool is eagerly anticipated by the Norwegian public roads administration, which commences an assessment with the new software this November, according to TRL. (ben)
