New terminal promotes shift

A new container terminal is coming up in the inland port of Osnabrück (Germany) and going online in October. The operating company Container Terminal Osnabrück (CTO) will see the operational involvement of the logisticians and transporters Hellmann, Koch International and www.nosta.de. A 49% minority stake in the CTO will be owned by the firm Terminalbesitzgesellschaft Osnabrück (TBOS).

The consortium aims to offer regional shippers and recipients options to shift operations from the roads to the railways, and to extend their route networks. From October the terminal, equipped with 40 m high gantry cranes, will be able to load and unload 700 m blocktrains. The partners hope to shift around 150,000 load units from the roads to the railways every year. (ben)
