New system starts in Duisburg
DSV has started rolling out its new Autostore storage technology in Duisburg (Germany). The automatic storage and retrieval system from the manufacturer Autostore and system partner Element Logic has been arranging the goods in plastic containers stacked on top of each other and placed close together since November.
Currently, 25,000 totes, 25 robots and eight carousel ports are used in Duisburg, where the system occupies 900 sqm of storage space. This represents a space saving of about 75% compared to traditional storage concepts.
Robots take the goods from the plastic containers that are conveyed and hand them over to employees. The system can also be operated in a multi-shift system and thus react to changing demand volumes, for example in e-commerce. (sh)
