New Sydney hub to improve access to Port Botany

Pacific National aims to offer more efficient rail connections in Australia. The spine of the network will be formed by the key freight hubs of Port Botany, Penrith, Parkes and Perth.

At present, the railfreight operator is constructing Australia’s largest inland logistics terminal at Parkes (NSW). The facility will enable Pacific to run 1.8 km long freight trains double-stacked with containers to Perth.

In addition, Pacific National wants to develop a major freight hub at St Marys in Sydney to provide better access to Port Botany. Construction is expected to start this year. Once operational, Pacific National will haul some 300,000 containers by rail between Port Botany and St Marys each year. (ben)
