New service sets sail from Asia to the US Gulf region
The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Maersk and ZIM have launched a new joint service from Asia to the US Gulf. The new service deploys ten ships of 4,500 teu capacity on the following rotation: Xiamen (China) – Yantian (China) – Busan (South Korea) – (Panama Canal transit) – Houston (TX, USA) – Mobile (AL, USA) – Tampa (FL, USA) – Manzanillo (Mexico) – (Panama Canal transit) – Balboa (Panama) – Busan.
The first sailing departed from Xiamen on 16 August 2019. While ZIM, with its Caribbean Gulf Express (CGX) feeder service, and MSC have been calling at the port of Tampa since 2003 and 2009, respectively, it is Maersk's first-time call. Maersk and MSC are partners in the 2M alliance. (cd)
