New Russian airport reaches for the stars
Having completed validation tests between 28 July and 8 August 2019 and after a test flight scheduled yesterday, 18 August 2019, Gagarin International Airport (GSV), which serves the southern Russian city of Saratov, will begin operations tomorrow, 20 August 2019.
All flights from Saratov Tsentralny Airport (RTW) will be transferred to Gagarin within one day, and the old airport will be closed.
The new airport was built as a public-private partnership, although, according to Russian legislation, airfields cannot be private. They are built by the government and designated as government property, even if the airport is managed by a private company and its terminal infrastructure was built privately. (ah)
