New rail service along Eurasian Middle Corridor
Maersk has introduced a new rail-sea service connecting Asia to Europe along the Middle Corridor. Departing from various locations, the service connects China and Europe via Central Asia in about 40 days and helps to ease current logistics woes, Maersk said.
After passing the border of Khorgos between China and Kazakhstan, containers arrive by rail at the station of Aktau where they are loaded on a barge bound for Baku in Azerbaijan.
From there, containers are transported by train to APM Terminals Poti, Georgia, where they are loaded on a feeder vessel that ships them to Constanta, Romania. Then the cargo is again loaded onto trains and delivered to various destinations in the rest of Europe. (ben)
