New PPE for female seafarers
The Singaporean Synergy Group, which manages a fleet of more than 540 vessels and employs more than 20,000 seafarers, now offers its female seafarers personal protective equipment (PPE) made by Hercules Safety and specially designed for female seafarers. The Synergy Group’s Third officer Noopur Mohire said that the group had called on Hercules to create new equipment for the company’s women, as equipment is generally designed for men.
Female seafarers are deployed on more than 60 vessels and for chief officer Reshma Murkar this new equipment is a way of supporting them. Synergy is keen to develop diversity, inclusivity and equality, she added. Captain Radhika Menon was pleased with the “highly functional new coveralls” for International Women’s Day. (lh)
