New player in Ukrainian waters
Hamburg-based carrier Hapag-Lloyd is opening a new office in Ukraine. Bordering on the northern shores of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, the country is the second largest in Europe and lies between the European Union and Russia. The new office will be in the Ukrainian capital Odessa and employ 21 people.
Due to its vital export and import activities, logistics plays a major role in the country's economy. Ukraine is home to several of the world’s largest multinational players and their production plants, which also creates opportunities for ocean carriers.
“The country’s economic growth is convincing. With the opening of our new office in the country, we pay tribute to the excellent business development and the enormous opportunities we see in this market,” said Juan Pablo Richards, senior managing director region southern Europe at Hapag-Lloyd, in a press release.
