New nonstop Vienna–Duisburg rail link

The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has introduced a route connecting Vienna and Duisburg (Germany).

The company has reported that the nonstop connection offers two weekly round trips, enhancing intermodal flows between Austria and Germany. The service is available for containers, swap bodies, cranable trailers and dangerous goods. The new connection reduces pressure on the existing Budapest–Duisburg link and allows seamless integration with services to and from Hungary, Italy and Turkey.

Direct connections from Vienna include links to terminals in Austria, Budapest (Bilk) and Istanbul (Halkali), as well as Verona (Sona). “For customers, this means optimised use of transport resources and greater planning reliability,” the company stated. (js)
