New mega ro-ro vessels to run on LNG
The fledgling Swedish company Wallenius-SOL (see ITJ Daily from 26 April) has ordered the first generation of LNG-powered ultra-large ro-ro vessels designed by Knud E Hansen.
An up to four vessels order has been placed with Yantai Cimc Raffles Offshore (China). The design office will also provide approval by classification and flag state authorities. This is the fourth series of ultra-large ro-ro vessels designed by Knud E. Hansen since 2016, resulting in more than 20 of these vessels being built in the coming years.
The new generation of 1A super ice-classed vessels will have a length of about 242 m and a deadweight capacity of some 27,000 t, making the ships the largest in their segment. On top of that, the mega ro-ro vessels will be the first of their kind to run on LNG. (kd)
