New logistics hub at Lyon airport
UPS has inaugurated a new building at Lyon airport (LYS). With a capacity to sort 3,000 packages per hour, this logistics hub is part of the modernisation project for the platform's cargo area, Cargoport. In line with the environmental ambitions of Vinci Airports which operates the French airport, the building has been designed with a view to reducing energy consumption by 20-25% and CO2 emissions by 33%.
At the end of September 2022, 40,000 t of air cargo had been handled at LYS, a 7% increase compared to 2021. The second largest cargo airport in France is a key player in the local economy, providing over 1,500 full-time jobs and supporting a large number of companies in the region that depend on its services (particularly the pharmaceutical industry and express freight).
