New locomotive type for Hungary
The first e-hybrid shunting locomotive to be manufactured for Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) has arrived in Hungary. The unit was developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive and optimised for RCH’s logistics tasks in accordance with the company’s specifications. Now, the vehicle will be subject to tests required for the authorisation and deployment in Hungary.
The railway ordered the locomotive in order to meet the shunting needs of single wagon transport service. The locomotive weighs 74 t and uses a lithium-titanate battery. It charges the battery on routes where overhead lines are available, hence enhancing the vehicle’s efficiency. RCH’s e-hybrid shunting locomotive can tow a train of 800 t without an overhead line for 85 minutes at a speed of 20 km/h. (ben)
