New hub for vehicle distribution in North America
Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) has opened its new Vancouver Automotive Compound (VAC) with a capacity to process 168,000 vehicles annually. The new facility is in a prime location to handle vehicles made in North America for distribution in northern Washington State (USA), British Columbia, and parts of Alberta (Canada), as well as vehicles imported through the port of Vancouver.
With surging volumes in the area, CP built the VAC on its own land adjacent to CP's Vancouver Intermodal Terminal. The compound can accommodate 36 multi-level auto racks and has nearly 1,200 bays for vehicles, allowing for eastern Canadian car shipments to be quickly offloaded and for empty auto carriers to be re-loaded and shipped back east.
