New heads for Tiaca
Steven Polmans, director cargo and logistics at Brussels Airport Company will become chairman of the International Air Cargo Association (Tiaca), and Sanjeev Gadhia, founder and CEO of Astral Aviation, will take on the vice-chairman role from July.
Polmans, who joined the Tiaca board in 2016, and served as vice-chairman for two years, replaces Sebastiaan Scholte, CEO of Jan De Rijk Logistics. Scholte steps down on 1 July 2019. Polmans has spent most of his career in aviation. He has held operational and commercial managerial positions for 15 years in the handling industry, at various airports, and in a variety of sectors, from catering and cleaning, to ramp handling and cargo.
Gadhia, who contributes over two decades of airfreight experience to his vice-chairman post, became the first African member of the Tiaca board in 2017.
He founded Nairobi (Kenya)-based Astral Aviation, the largest private cargo airline in Eastern Africa, in 2000, and the commercial drone operator Astral Aerial Solutions in 2017. The latter provides humanitarian aid relief and remote monitoring to combat poaching, amongst other solutions. (mw)
