New global shipping index on the agenda
A partnership is developing a new shipping index for ocean carrier schedule reliability. For that purpose, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and Cargo Smart, a shipment management software solutions provider, have signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The plan is to create a new methodology in order to calculate schedule reliability for key trade lanes to help shippers optimise their supply chains and improve service quality. Amongst others, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange has so far published the China containerised freight index (CCFI) and the Shanghai containerised freight index (SCFI).
Cargo Smart collaborates with more than 20 ocean carriers in order to monitor and analyse over 16,000 vessels, 1,400 global container terminals, 3,000 ocean carrier services representing 85% of the market, and 10 million sailing schedules. By tapping into its database and applying analytics, Cargo Smart aims at an accurate measurement of ocean carriers’ schedule reliability and performance. (fd)
