New feeder service via Le Havre
A new weekly direct connection between the French port of Le Havre, part of Haropa Ports, and maritime hubs in Russia and Finland, started this morning. Cosco Shipping has reacted to recent experiences in British ports by making Le Havre central to its RFS4 shortsea service. Today, Wednesday 16 December, the containership 'Navi Baltic' made its first call at the port of Le Havre, specifically in the terminal de France.
The service was put in place in conjunction with Cosco's intra-Europe subsidiary Diamond Line, dedicated to shortsea services, and it now connects the port in the Normandy directly with the Russian ports of St Petersburg/Bronka and the Finnish port of Kotka. Two ice class 1 AS vessels with about 300 reefer points are deployed.
Laurent Foloppe, Haropa's director of sales and marketing, was proud to point out that "exports from Le Havre now reach St Petersburg in four days and Kotka in five; for imports, Kotka to Le Havre takes just four days." (cd)
