New deputy director for federal roads office
The Swiss federal department of the environment, transport, energy and communications has appointed Erwin Wieland as new deputy director of the federal roads office (Fedro). He will take up his new position on 1 October.
Wieland, from the canton of Graubünden, has been working for Fedro as deputy director and head of the road networks division since May 2006. In this strategically important function, he drafted, among other things, the congestion elimination programme and further developed traffic management.
Before joining Fedro, Wieland worked for the federal office of transport for over ten years, where he held several roles, including head of the policy and planning section.
Weiland trained as a civil engineer at the ETH Zurich and completed postgraduate courses in project management during his professional career. (cj)
