New container industry standards in the making
The terminal industry committee 4.0 (TIC 4.0), formed by the end of May 2018 in Brussels (Belgium) by an open group of 15 global container terminal operators and other partners, has just met for a plenary meeting in Marseilles (France) in coincidence with the port equipment manufacturers association (PEMA).
Its members, who have been striving for over one year in several working groups to agree on industry concepts and definitions towards the development of container industry standards to cope with challenges like digital transformation, energy transition and the evolution towards automation, have now voted in favour of taking the committee to the next level to form a formal association by the end of 2019.
TIC 4.0 encourages organisations of port operators and port solution providers to join, as the associations’ objective is to reach 30 members in 2020. The TIC 4.0 association is promoted and supported by the federation of European private port operators (Feport) and PEMA. It is currently chaired by Terminal Link, with the Fundación Valenciaport acting as general secretariat. (fd)
