New chairman for German transport alliance
Change at the helm of the transport alliance Allianz pro Schiene: the general meeting elected Thorsten Westphal as the new chairman. The head of the trade union of employees in the railway and transport industry (Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft, EVG) will thus take over from Alexander Kirchner.
“We are looking forward to Westphal, with whom we have been working well and confidentially for many years,” Dirk Flege, managing director of the Allianz pro Schiene, said in Berlin on Tuesday, 19 November. “At the same time, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Alexander Kirchner, who has headed the Allianz pro Schiene as its chairman for many years and whose ideas and commitment have had a significant impact on our alliance and made a substantial contribution to its success.”
In its daily work, the Allianz pro Schiene is run by a full-time managing director. The members of the board, who serve the alliance on a voluntary basis, are elected by the member organisations which include trade unions, environmental organisations, passenger associations as well as scientific institutions.
