New cargo infrastructure for Zurich airport
As the oldest cargo hangars at Zurich airport (ZRH), dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, no longer fully meet the requirements of today's cargo business, airport operator Flughafen Zürich is building a new cargo hangar in the east of the airport. Construction work for the "Fracht Rächtenwisen" centre will begin this month.
The airport will be able to meet changing demand with the modern handling and storage hangar covering almost 9,500 sqm. It will offer 20 docking ramps for trucks, areas for import and export processes, as well as for customs and security checks. The new infrastructure also provides space for specialised processes for handling pharmaceutical and hazardous goods.
The hangar will be constructed using concrete pillars with a wooden supporting structure and a photovoltaic system on the roof. Once completed (2027), it will be leased and used by Dnata Switzerland. (ah)
