New Cagliari terminal operational
The Genoa-based Gruppo Grendi has been setting a new trend since late July, when it commenced operations in its new Mito container terminal in Sardinia. The facility in Cagliari is dedicated to feeder services and the import and export of international freight flows. The port of Cagliari is a focal point of the operations of the Gruppo Grendi, which has provided Sardinia with integrated logistics services since 1936.
In the first half of 2021 Grendi, through its operating company Grendi Trasporti Marittimi, handled 17,500 teu in Cagliari (+7% compared to the same period of 2020). Its main customers there include MSC and Hapag Lloyd. The group served the latter with stevedoring services in its historic compound for more than a year before it obtained this new dedicated space in the international terminal area, called Mito of Sardinia (Mediterranean Intermodal Terminal Operator).
Mito offers customers a 350 m quay in the industrial port of Cagliari and a 86,000 sqm yard. Loading and unloading operations are expected to be fully operational by September. The Group already operates around 20,000 sqm of warehouse space dedicated to last-mile distribution in Sardinia. (cd)
