New builder for container terminal
In Germany, DB has taken over the responsibility for planning and constructing the rail-road container terminal in the GVZ Region Augsburg from the previous contractor, Terminalinvestitionsgesellschaft Augsburg.
DB Netz will build the facility as previously planned, with two gantry cranes and an outreach of 700 m. The terminal in the GVZ Region is designed for a maximum annual handling capacity of 100,000 load units - containers, swap bodies and semi trailers. It is expected to manage an annual throughput of 60,000 load units by 2030.
The rail-road container terminal will be operated by DUSS Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Strasse. The construction of the terminal is a priority project in Germany’s federal transport infrastructure plan. (ben)
