National vaccine distribution plan for Italy
The main Italian air cargo and pharmaceuticals logistics associations have set up a task force to conduct the dialogue with the government, commissioners and other authorities concerning the challenges of delivering Covid-19 vaccines and drawing up a distribution programme. The bodies involved are Anama, PharmacomItalia, Assaeroporti, Assaereo, Iata, Assohandlers, Assoram, Ibar and AICAI.
Alessandro Albertini, president of the Italian association of airfreight forwarders Anama and task force spokesman, pointed out that “we need fast corridors and transit times; high security standards; large cargo capacities on aircraft and trucks; and large storage capacities in warehouses.”
Delivering the projected 30 million doses in the first quarter of 2021 represents “the largest transport challenge ever,” according to Rafael Schvartzman, Iata’s regional vice-president for Europe. “Close cooperation between industry and government will be crucial to success,” he closed. (cd)
