Nairobi first African cargo airport
Further to the African division of Airports Council International (ACI), which is composed of 69 regular members from 52 countries, managing more than 260 airports, and of 46 business partners, 2.15 million t of cargo transited through African airports in 2021, representing around 1.7% of the worldwide cargo volume. The cargo traffic growth increased by 11.6% in 2021 compared to 2020.
Kenya's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) headed the list of African cargo airports after recording 363,204 t of cargo in the year under review. Egypt's Cairo International Airport (CAI) and South Africa's OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) serving Johannesburg came in second and third with 333,536 t and 304,018 t, respectively. (ah)
