“M.V. Jamno” rings in this year’s shipping season


Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbour has welcomed the “M.V. Jamno” as the first ocean vessel of the 2024 international shipping season to call at the port. Sailing under the Bahamas flag and operated by Polish marine line Polsteam, the ship arrived from the Port of Ijmuiden, Netherlands.

 

Having set sail on 21 March and navigated through the St. Lawrence Seaway, the “M.V. Jamno” docked in Indiana on 12 April, carrying 6,200 t of specialised steel products destined for local manufacturers.

 

The cargo was handled by port stevedore Logistec and local workers from the International Longshoremen’s Association and the International Union of Operating Engineers.

 

The Ports of Indiana, a self-funded enterprise established in 1961, operates three ports on the Ohio River and Lake Michigan and handles over 3 million t of cargo annually, including key materials for steel production. (pb)
