MSC wants more
Clarksons reports that the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has ordered its next round of container newbuilds. This time, the Swiss shipping company has opted for wharfs in both China and South Korea to build 14 LNG capable units with a capacity 8,000 teu and six vessels of 7,900 teu each. All units are due to be delivered in 2025.
Apart from operating the largest global fleet, 664 ships of which 186 were acquired second-hand since August 2020, MSC is now also the biggest player with regards to new orders. The carrier's orderbook is currently four times as large as the second placed shipping company Maersk. (sh)
