MSC extends switch to Liverpool

The Swiss carrier MSC is to include a call at the port of Liverpool (UK) in its rotation between Canada, Turkey and various southern European ports. The news comes after the 2M shipping alliance confirmed at the end of 2018 that Liverpool will be a permanent call on its TA4 transatlantic service.

The new MSC service is expected to drive business growth in the company’s rail and short-sea feeder services to/from Scotland. The sailing, which will deploy eight 5,500 teu vessels offering two calls per week in Liverpool, will rotate between Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Liverpool and Canada.

In partnership with DB Cargo, Peel Ports introduced a direct railfreight service from the port of Liverpool in 2018. The port operator's container terminal in Liverpool offers road, rail and inland waterway (Manchester Ship Canal) connectivity to the hinterland, plus short-sea shipping. (kd)
