Moving reefers by train saves up to 83% CO2
In coordination with PSA BDP, PSA Italy has launched its first sustainable refrigerated containers rail service in Europe. The new Port+ solution runs on PSA Italy’s Southern Express rail service between Basel (Switzerland) and the Port of Genoa (Italy). The service offers customers a sustainable way of cooling or freezing their products during transport.
The inaugural train delivered a container filled with temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products to Genoa. At the terminal, the cargo was transferred to the MSC Alma containership, which was bound for Savannah, Georgia in the USA.
The switch from road to the Southern Express Rail reduces carbon emissions by up to 83% and energy consumption by 49%, PSA said. (ben)
