More trains on north-south route
Belgium carrier Lineas is strengthening its presence in Ghent’s North Sea port (Belgium) by introducing a new direct intermodal connection to Milano Segrate (Italy). This service will operate five scheduled return trips per week.
Lineas already runs a regular service to the Intermodale Milano Segrate terminal from Antwerp, Zeebrugge (both Belgium) and Moerdijk (Netherlands).
Around 22 wagons are available on each scheduled train from Ghent to Milan, replacing some 11,000 return trips by truck every year.
At the same time, the new connection increases capacity between Antwerp and Milan as trains no longer divert via Ghent on this line. (ben)
