More than 100,000 teu at Liège
The Autonomous Port of Liège, Belgium, witnessed a new mark in 2020 for the volumes of river container traffic. With 115,921 teu and an increase of 20% (+19,701 teu), the container terminals of the Port of Liège thus recorded their eighth consecutive increase. Total traffic stood at 19.2 million t of goods in 2020, a decrease of 9% compared to 2019.
River traffic is also on the decline with nearly 14 million t crossing the Liège port areas (-12%). For the first time in ten years, turnover of all port activities was down slightly (-7.5%) and amounted to EUR 45 million.
Despite the context of crisis, the Port of Liège maintained its investments in 2020 by carrying out major railway works on the Liège Trilogiport platform making it fully trimodal (water/rail/route).
According to Belgium's national bank, the Liège port complex represents 7,858 direct jobs and 10,445 indirect jobs generated by all the concessionary companies of the Autonomous Port of Liège. (cd)
