More space for Rhine terminal
After a Europe-wide tender procedure, Delta Port has awarded Contargo the contract for an additional area in the port of Voerde-Emmelsum, on the Lower Rhine near Wesel (Germany).
The container terminal will be enlarged, and the quay extended by 130 m in the coming years on the approximately 11,000 sqm site adjacent to the existing terminal which Contargo has been operating since 2017. The Port of Voerde-Emmelsum plans to attract more logistics companies to settle on the roughly 300,000 sqm site, thus expanding its logistics location and portfolio.
Jürgen Albersmann, managing director of Contargo: "We will invest around EUR 15 million in improving and increasing terminal’s cargo handling capacity. The project also includes a second crane."
The terminal operating company Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe has been organising comprehensive container logistics services by barge and rail for customers on the Lower Rhine and in the northern Ruhr region since 2017. (sh)
