More space for manoeuvre at Panama
The Panama Canal Authority recently increased the maximum length (LOA) allowed for vessels passing the Neopanamax Locks. Now, the LOA for call units on regular transits through these locks is exactly 370.33 m. This is almost 3 m up from the previous limit of 367.28 m.
According to the Pancanal, almost 97% of the world’s fleet of container ships can now choose the route through the Panama Canal. A number of trials made sure that the information is tested and valid.
In addition, the Pancanal now offers a 15.24 m draft. The original draft of 14.93 m was improved due to more rainfall and careful water management at Gatun Lake. (cd)
