More security for container handlers
About 35% of the volume in the shipping containers is air with a gas mixture. These gaseous substances are mostly harmless, but there are some that can be highly harmful to our health. They travel with the packaged goods and can then be inhaled when the containers are opened.
In 2019, Metrans therefore launched a pilot project at its Slovakian terminal in Dunajská Streda, to measure the concentration of gases in containers – without the need to open the container.
In the meantime, this technology is also evolving, and to keep up with developments, the HHLA affiliate joined forces EWS Group to extend the state-of-the art gas measurements for its staff at its terminals in Hungary and Poland, Metrans said. (ben)
