More roadside facilities for HGV drivers

HGV drivers in UK will benefit from GBP 20 million (EUR 23.9 million) to improve roadside facilities. The funding will go specifically towards improving security, showers and eating facilities as well as exploring plans to increase parking spaces for lorry drivers.

Roadside service operators are being encouraged by the government to apply for the multimillion-pound fund immediately, the ministry of transport said.

Government and industry have already taken steps to help address recruitment issues in the last year, according to a new report. For example, the government has provided the necessary funds to set up new HGV skills bootcamps to train just over 11,000 more people to become HGV drivers in England. (ben)
